A Rose by Any Other Name ...

By Larry Mondello

The Baseball Hall of Hypocrisy has its names out for eligibility this year and Pete Rose is not on it.

Such honorable role models as Albert Belle (who had a habit of getting drunk, corking bats and threatening children, reporters and photogs) and Dwight Gooden (major league drug and alcohol abuser) are there, but not Rose, who has more hits than any other player in history.

Put all the asterisks you want next to his name, but Pete Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Who would be in the Hall of Fame if they left all the players out with drug problems? Major League Baseball has its limits you know. Now let's just move on and end it already with the whining about Pete Rose.

Hey, Ceres... I don't disagree with you, but does that mean you DO or DON'T think Rose should be admitted to the Hall of Fame?

That's like asking me if I think the Red Sox should win the World Series. I am just sick of the same old complaints. Now, if Rose actually got inducted I might start making some noise.

The only thing worse than those who whine about Pete Rose are those who whine about whiners.

Rose deserves to be in. But that being said, I have no sympathy for him. He did such a great job of politicking his way into the hearts of the Hall voters: "let's lie for a decade before fessing up..." Outstanding PR.
