Now THIS Is Funny

By Cassandra D

It has become clear that the Republican Party has decided that Mexicans and other Spanish-speaking, brown-skinned folk are to be the "Gay Marriage" of the 2006 elections. While some Republicans are discussing the legitimate issues presented by illegal immigration, far too many seem to be beating the drums to draw folks into the "Big Racist Tent." And Dubya leapt right onto that bandwagon with his condemnation of the Spanish language version of the national anthem.

Leave it to some intrepid bloggers to uncover proof of the hypocritical opportunism that we all knew was lurking under the thinnest of veils.

Seems Mr. Bush had no problem with a Spanish version of our national anthem being sung during his campaign, nor a Spanish version of "America the Beautiful" being sung at his very own inauguration.

W is a bit of a hypocrite to now say that the national anthem should be sung in English, since it was sung in Spanish as you mention, and since the White House website offers only its only non-English version in Spanish.
But Nuestro Himno is not a Spanish translation of the "Star-Spangled Banner." Unless Mr. Key wrote this:
It’s time to make a difference the kids, men and the women/Let’s stand for our beliefs, let’s stand for our vision/What about the children los ninos como P-Star
These kids have no parents, cause all of these mean laws.
See this can’t happen, not only about the Latins.
Asians, blacks and whites and all they do is adding
more and more, let’s not start a war
with all these hard workers,
they can’t help where they were born.

Good point Ms. D. I said the same thing to my husband last night. Bush was mastering the Spanish language when he wanted the Latino vote.

Who cares what language any song is sung in; anytime I hear an anthem of another country I always want to hear it in english because I would like to know what they are saying. Americans can be so superior.

Hail to the Hypocrite. Hey George, you should know better than anyone that you live by the blog, you die by the blog--ask Dan Rather.

Just proves that campaigns and inaugurals are all just photo ops, staged to make it appear your campaign/party is inclusive and compassionite.

Hopefully the WH press corps will corner Tony Snow about this one.
