Dear Chase, The newspaper article does not justify your conclusion that Green Bay is wrestling with Christmas at all. The problems are not just in the scheduling of church, or synagogue, or mosque a activities, but impact all areas of life.

GB'ers who might have planned a mid-afternoon outing with their friends in the Lambeau Field area will now have to change their plans. Suppose they merely wanted to go to the west side of GB (to be closer to the rarified air of Lambeau) and just eat brats and drink beer. They will have to change their plans or be caught in a major traffic jam.

GB's major shopping mall is on the west side near Historic Lambeau Field. Thousands of Christmas shoppers will now have to re-arrange their shopping plans. This could devastate the retail business.

This is certainly an ecumenical problem, not just Christian. Major religious movements co-exist in the Fox Valley: Christianity (heavily Catholic, but other versions accepted), Judaism, Islam, NFL, and the power of cheese.

Until the recent re-scheduling fiasco, these religions all lived in peace. However, the NFL religion decided to make a major power play as the region's dominant faith. The Packers were not consulted and have
been troubled over this as well. They have always lived as an integral, cooperative segment of the community, and now have been involuntarily pushed into a dominant posture.

Those familiar with Green Bay know it's indomitable spirit. The power of cheese will rise to unite us all and teach us to be flexible in our programming. Stores will time major sales around the newly re-scheduled games, churches and synagogues will thank God for the internet and for cell phones as they rise to the occasion by rescheduling to accomodate the Packer schedule.

All will be forgiven as long as the Packers to to the playoffs and Brett Favre promises not to retire this year.

Dear Anonymous -
I appreciate your clearing this up and placing it in the proper perspective. I suspect that should this blog ever tackle the issue of death row inmates and their last meals, you will be able to weigh in on that, as well. Keep on truckin', anon!

Last meal for death row inmates? What in the world provoked that comment? Who would ever even think to write about such a morbid and pointless subject?
