Atta Boy, Hall of Fame

Chase the longtime baseball fan (that's me) wants to give a big Atta Boy to the newest additions to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.: Wade Boggs and Ryne Sandberg. It's especially cool that these two legends hail from two of the most beloved underdog teams in the history of the game, that being, respectively, the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.

Boggs, who five times led the American League in hits, received an overwhelming number of votes on this, his first year of eligibility. But I am particularly gratified to see the induction of Sandberg, one of the greatest second baseman of all time who twice had been passed up in voting. The only bummer is that Bruce Sutter, the Cubs' old ace reliever, failed to make the cut for the umpteenth time.

Cooperstown's Veterans Committee will announce its results on March 2. Bet on Brooklyn Dodgers great Gil Hodges finally making it into the Hall.
