WWJD?

Wow -- so Interview with the Vampire novelist Anne Rice, she of the horror erotica (or is it erotic horror?) genre, now says she has found God and is a real Christian.

Gosh, if someone like Anne Rice can start acting like a real Christian, just imagine who might be next ...

James Dobson? Pat Robertson? George W. Bush?

I am happy for Anne that she has found Christ, I just don't know if writing about him in a fictional way is gonna too cool, (gospels according to Anne and all) but I guess she wants to use her art to express her faith...I just hope the new writing doesn't end up darker than her other stuff.

I find this an interesting turn of events -- to say the least.

As an avid reader of Rice's earlier vampire novels and the first Mayfair Witches book, I grew increasingly disappointed with her later work until I simply stopped reading her altogether. The last Rice novel I read was "Servant of the Bones," a narration of a Babylonian genie's origins, and it was a disappointment. She seemed to be repeating herself, and delving into the most depraved topics in an almost "Azriel Abyss" self-parody.

One wonders how she will portray the life of a historical figure that many scholars and historians agree is the essential "icon of the West" and the central figure of Western civilization.

It will be fascinating to see what she comes up with.

On a related note, and not to direct traffic away from CTTC, one should consider checking out the vitriol and derision that commenters have unleashed on Rice over at the Huffington Post.

The Huffington posts range from bigoted and acidicly hateful (stuff that Nero might have written) to unhinged (stuff that the Marquis de Sade might have written) to simply ignorant (stuff that Huffington posters did write).

I am confident the tenor of debate here will remain above all three.
