Independent Spirit Awards

The Independent Spirit Awards have unveiled the nominees for this year, and, not surprisingly, "Sideways" and "Maria Full of Grace" are among the top flicks.
What the hell constitutes an indie film anymore, anyway? It's starting to become a rather amorphous term, the way "alternative rock" lost all meaning once bands such as Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam started getting radioplay.

Sure am interested in seeing what all the hoopla is with "Kinsey" and "The Woodsman," though.

Check out the nominations.

Chase may remember a year or so ago I came up with a tongue-in-cheek checklist for indie movie plots.

They usually, for example, involve at least one stock character who is a crazed evangelical Christian with some secret predeliction.

Now, it seems with the kudos for "Kinsey" and "The Woodsman" we can add another requirement for indie films. They must involve pedophiles cast in heroic light, or some sort of other perversion seen in warm, redemptive terms.

That's the Independent Spirit!
