Time Out

Tom Tomorrow ponders the appropriateness of Ann Coulter's appearance on the cover of Time during the week marking the 10th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing. As he points out, that's a mighty big spotlight for a hate-spouting whackjob who once quipped that her "only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."

What a sweetie pie.

What a vile shrew.

You are too kind in your description of her as a "vile shrew." I find it difficult to believe that people on the right truly love her, as Time suggests. I think she probably gives a strong lift to liberals because she antagonizes viewers wherever she goes. I think the left should hope that Ann Coulter and Tom Delay continue to remain in the spotlight for years to come. After all, George Bush became president at least in part because of the attractiveness of his "compassionate conservatism." The new brand of conservatism symbolized by Ann Coulter and Tom Delay is hardly that.
