Black-Hearted, Indeed

Watching Tim Russert get his fat smug ass handed to him for trying to nitpick tragedy is, well, a beautiful thing.

And so we refer you to Crooks and Liars, which boasts a bewildered Aaron Broussard, president of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, responding to suggestions that he fudged facts on "Meet the Press" several weeks ago when he related the story of how a friend's mother died in the aftermath of Katrina.

I will take up for Russert on this one. Broussard broke down a couple of weeks ago while relating that story, but using it to bash Bush and the federal response to Katrina. I understand the guy's emotions and feel for him, but he used the experience of the guy's mother to be highly critical. As it turns out, his facts were wrong, it was a local problem (even the nursing home owners who have been indicted) It would have been wrong for Russert not to question him about it. Frankly, I think Broussard came across looking a little strange.
