The Daily Skewering

Yeah, yeah, Jon Stewart might be getting a bit carried away with himself these days with his steady roasting of mainstream media, but damned if he isn't always on-target and funny about his criticism.

His latest target? Magazines, as evidenced by a recent panel discussion involving Stewart and the editors of some major mags. Folio magazine has the story here.

Jon Stewart is swimming toward the shark....primed and ready to jump.

It's happening sooner than I thought, but his comments on print journalism having no influence. Yah, we lost Bubba Gump, but we have Bubba Clinton. The movers and the shakers still cling to their ink.

Stewart -- while often insightful and nearly always entertaining -- will wither.

Just to be absolutely clear: The above comment wasn't from me, though I agree with most of the sentiments expressed. Chase, do I remember a certain someone making similar arguments about Jon Stewart's decline about a year ago, and being pilloried for it?

You remember correctly -- and I still disagree with you. Stewart's critique of Vanity Fair, Cosmo and the like is pretty on-target, I think.

Well, I'll just take comfort in knowing that I'm not alone in my not-so-out-there assessment...
