KFOR in The Onion -- Sorta

By Daniel Gale-Grogen

"America's Finest News Source," The Onion, has always been must-read material for the CTTC core staff and its worldwide bureaus, but this story about a bizarro universe KFOR-TV Channel 4 in Oklahoma City left us scratching our heads until sores developed:

TV-News Graphics Guy Gives Weatherman On-Air Surprise

The story itself is fairly standard Onion material: mediocre shmucks who fancy themselves to be infinitely amusing. What is truly ape crazy bizarre about this story is the presence of real KFOR names in the copy, such as Grant Johnston and Bob Barry Sr.

Other names and details seem harvested from the lower intestine, but take a look at the graphic -- while that is not Johnston, the "sunshine" is not Barry and KFOR does the standard seven-day forecast rather than a five-day, the "4Warn Storm Team" logo is genuine KFOR material.

Fascinating. Now, if only The Onion had managed to mention Jack Bowen's Thursday night confessional with Linda Cavanaugh, we would all be scurrying to find the Onion mole in KFOR's newsroom.
