Edvard Munch and Democrats

The New Republic weighs in on the possibility of Dr. Howard Dean heading the Democratic National Committee:

"If there's an image the Democratic Party is not looking to project to the country, 'unhinged screamer' would be at the top of the list. Also, 'arrogant Northeasterner' and 'antiwar activist.' All of these things, alas, are cemented in the public's view of Dean."

I suspect that most Republicans are watching the possibility of a Dean ascendancy into the DNC power structure, and they're doing some variation of clasping their hands and repeating the phrase, "Oh please Santa, oh please Santa, oh please..."

But as I've said before, as a Bush supporter and as a center-right thinker, I do not think it will be a good thing for the Democrat party to implode.

We need the two-party system. I've enjoyed watching the Democrats go down in flames this election year, because I really think they had it coming.

But I don't want to see them completely immolate themselves, either.
