Cast Out, Ye Democratic Sinner!

The misadventures of the Religious Right just get nuttier and nuttier. The latest: A Baptist church pastor near Asheville, N.C., recently forced nine church members out of the flock for being sinners.

That's right ... the nine are filthy, stinking, obscene, freedom-hating, homosexual-loving, baby-killing, Commie pinko Democrats.

The Raleigh-Durham News & Observer's Kristin Collins reports on the Lord's mysterious ways:

"All nine walked out after Pastor Chan Chandler told them he expected them to sign forms supporting his political and moral beliefs. After they left, members who remained voted to boot the dissenters.

" 'He (Chandler) went on and on about how he's going to bring politics up, and if we didn't agree with him we should leave,' said Isaac Sutton, 75, a deacon who was voted out after 12 years at the church. 'I think I deserve the right to vote for who I want to.' "

Right, buddy. Keep up that kind of insubordinate talk and pretty soon the pagans will be whisking away our children in the dead of night and forcing them, at gunpoint, to suckle on the bosom of hermaphroditic trial attorneys.

While this sort of outrage is, thankfully, a fringe incident in the so-called culture wars, it will be interesting to see if and how the North Carolina Republican Party and national GOP leadership will respond.

As of this writing, they're nowhere to be found.
