"Daily Show" Spinoff

As a loyalist of "The Daily Show," it pains me to say, but I smell an impending jump of the shark. The program's unflappable Stephen Colbert is slated to get his own spinoff show, which means he will join Steve Carell, Mo Rocca and other distinguished "Daily Show" alumni who have moved on to (ostensibly) bigger things. "The Colbert Report," a nightly half-hour parody of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and other blowhards; isn't likely to have much of a shelf-life, especially since those shows are in themselves parody. In the meantime, Jon Stewart will lose a terrific addition to his show.

We're not playing taps for the show just yet, but we're not exactly optimistic ...

This better not be the end of his greatest segment, "This Week in God."
